Hodlonaut has claimed a small, but significant victory against Craig Wright, as his libel case against the anonymous Twitter analyst has been dismissed by the High Court of Justice in the U.K. According to Hodlonaut, the legal battle will continue in Norway, as the court ruled the country had jurisdiction over the matter.
Craig Wright’s defamation lawsuit against Hodlonaut is officially dismissed
Few figures in the crypto industry have been as generous with passing out lawsuits as Craig Wright has. However, the self-proclaimed creator of Bitcoin hasn’t had much luck when it comes to winning any of the cases he brought before a court.
Hodlonaut, a prominent figure in the crypto sphere, has been the recipient of one of many Wright’s defamation lawsuits. The anonymous “space cat” was one of the first ones to call Wright out and publicly dispute his claims of being Satoshi Nakamoto.
And now, Wright’s case against him has finally come to an end. According to the latest update from Hodlonaut, the High Court of Justice in the U.K. has ruled that it has no jurisdiction over the case and has dismissed the proceedings.
“UK High Court handed down judgment today in the defamation case CSW filed against me. The Judge ruled UK does not have jurisdiction, and the proceedings against me there to be dismissed,” Hodlonaut tweeted.
And while many have celebrated the small, but significant victory, the case is far from over. The trial will resume in Norway, as the U.K. court has ruled that the jurisdiction over the matter belonged to the Nordic country.
No luck in court for self-proclaimed Satoshi Nakamoto
The dismissal of the case is yet another stain on Craig Wright’s already terrible track record. The self-proclaimed Satoshi Nakamoto is yet to win a court case, despite being involved in at least a dozen lawsuits in the past couple of years.
Apart from his ongoing saga with the estate of his former partner Dave Kleiman, Wright has taken several high-profile figures from the crypto industry to court.
Last year, Wright’s case against Bitcoin Cash advocate Roger Ver, whom he sued for defamation, was also dismissed by the High Court. At the time, Judge Sir Matthew Nicklin said that the case was “weak” and “inappropriate.”
Peter McCormack, the host of “What Bitcoin Did” podcast, was also among the many recipients of Wright’s libel lawsuits. The case is still ongoing.
However, Wright’s battle with Hodlonaut was bloodier than most. Back in April 2019, with the help of his partner Calvin Ayre and the Coingeek publication, Wright put out a bounty for Hodlonaut’s true identity, which resulted in his private data being posted online.
